Rumors of the remake of the Chevy Chase classic Fletch has been kicked around the internet so long now that it's hard to remember where they began. It seems that everyone has wanted a piece of the film. At one time Kevin Smith was slated to direct. Jason Lee has been interested. Until recently Zach Braff and Bill Lawrence (of Scrubs fame) seemed the winning team. But now a scheduling conflict has forced Braff to pull out.
"Zach is currently writing and directing his own film [Open Hearts] at Paramount," says Lawrence. "I'm very happy for him. We were looking foward to doing this thing together , but when you get an opportunity like that, you've got to take it." So what of Fletch now? It seems that director Steve Pink (Accepted) has taken the helm. And he is bringing Joshua Jackson with him to play the starring role. While I'm not so sure about this casting decision (Braff would have been perfect in my opinion), it will be interesting to see this play out. We'll keep you informed as the news comes in. This will be one film worth catching.
