According to DavisDVD, Genius Entertainment and The Weinstein Company will release Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof" segment of "Grindhouse" on September 18th. Apparently, Robert Rodriguez's "Planet Terror" will release separately at a yet unknown date.
During its theatrical run, "Grindhouse" went through many changes. First it was released as a double feature, and completely failed at the box office. Then the Weinsteins tried to release the film as two separate films, just like in Europe, and that failed as well.
Not knowing why a Tarantino/Rodriguez film would fail, the company blamed it on the long running time, and the audience's lack of knowledge of these types of movies.
Now, "Grindhouse" is coming out on DVD, and if you're looking to get the same experience as some of us did in the theaters, you're out of luck, since the two films will be released separately. Fortunately, Rodriguez has previously stated that there will be plenty of extras to please the fans. Stay tuned.
